At Saiful Anwar Hospital, young children receive special care for their illnesses. What if we add a splash of color to the waiting room\u2014a place where they often spend long hours waiting for doctors?<\/em><\/strong> That’s how I recall the start of this incredible initiative, the Visual Healing Project.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Malang Mural Family (MMF), a muralist community I lead, along with the Sahabat Anak Kanker Community (SAK), received an extraordinary welcome to collaborate with 24Slides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I never imagined we would collaborate with an internationally renowned company, and now I have the opportunity to share this spirit of care with the world through this story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Working Together for Our Community: The Visual Healing Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I would like to begin my story as the founder of the <\/strong>Malang Mural Family<\/strong><\/a> (hereafter referred to as \u201cMMF\u201d). The muralist movement that MMF has been conducting so far focuses on social activities, both independently and in collaboration with any community that shares our mission and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From painting villages, schools, Islamic boarding houses, and a children\u2019s library to recently creating a mural at Saiful Anwar Hospital. Completing this latest project was particularly special, as it\u2019s the main hospital in the city of Malang, Indonesia\u2014a milestone we never imagined possible before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with the SAK Community<\/a>, which strives to help children with cancer, we agreed to create the “Visual Healing Project<\/a>.” MMF plays an important role here, as we are responsible for creating the mural art, one of the central elements of this movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the name suggests, as a community, we believe in the healing power of art<\/strong>. In this project, we carefully selected colors with a healing psychological effect, along with visuals that we hope will resonate in the minds of the children at the hospital. The Visual Healing Project was conceived as an additional boost for them during their recovery process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As SAK once said, <\/strong>“When children fight cancer, they cannot fight alone.”<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>This message also touches our hearts and drives us to act with the same social spirit. That’s why we’re thrilled that a major company like 24Slides supported us by providing volunteers\u2014a fundamental contribution that brought this project to life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coincidentally, I am also connected with Indah, one of the SAK community members and Design Manager at 24Slides. This connection facilitated our negotiations and future coordination for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the Scenes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

24Slides, through its Corporate Social Responsibility department (CSR), welcomed SAK and MMF with great enthusiasm. We were also well received by other 24Sliders. Seeing their passion for art, we organized an internal art exhibition for our colleagues, followed by an art auction to raise funds for the Visual Healing Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still smile when I remember the auction day. My artwork sold at the highest price to Mom Louise<\/a>. I wonder what my CEO, Tobias<\/a>, thought when he saw my work for the first time. Four of my pieces featured his face, dressed in four different uniforms representing various professions in Indonesia: a farmer, a gas station attendant, a mini-market employee, and a courier. I wrapped it all in a style reminiscent of the NFT art trend that was booming at the time. “No matter the cost, I have to take this to Denmark,”<\/em> said Mom Louise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In short, the other artworks also sold remarkably well. The art auction<\/a> to raise funds was a success, although it was briefly hampered by the Covid pandemic. In the end, this project was successfully carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our initial plan was to continue this project in other rooms for pediatric cancer patients, but the hospital is currently full of patients and, of course, they are prioritizing their care. Here, SAK\u2019s role is crucial in handling coordination, as they have built a long-standing partnership with Saiful Anwar Hospital over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While waiting for the opportunity to paint in the children’s cancer ward, we were given the option to renovate the outpatient children’s clinic waiting area, which is currently under construction. This new project will benefit not only children with cancer but all children receiving treatment in the hospital<\/strong>. It\u2019s exciting to know that the project can finally reach a wider audience!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m also happy to share that this project has appeared twice in the local Malang media, which helps raise awareness of our work, and I hope it inspires more people to join the movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this time, I would also like to personally thank all my friends at 24Slides for their support, from the initial fundraising to the completion of the hospital murals. Especially the CSR team, who were the first to recognize our good intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Finding Balance: My Role as an Impact Ambassador at 24Slides<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For about six years, I have worked at 24Slides and have always been motivated to participate in CSR activities<\/strong>. Getting involved in social initiatives has become an integral part of my life, so my interest in supporting volunteer projects or other activities organized by CSR came naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like Indah, I maintain active communication with Bayu, the CSR representative in Indonesia. Our communication flows smoothly, largely because we were part of the same organization during university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, my role in CSR has grown significantly, especially after being appointed as one of the ‘Impact Ambassadors’ in Indonesia<\/strong>. That way, I take on an additional role in my work as an in-house designer: contributing innovative ideas and actively participating in activities organized by the CSR team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most memorable moment as an Impact Ambassador was our assignment to Nusa Penida (Bali)<\/a>, where we represented 24Slides in observing and supporting the work done by CSR and the Bali Children Foundation<\/a> (BCF). During our visit, we had the opportunity to tour four elementary schools and witness the classrooms that 24Slides helped create. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spending time with the younger students and witnessing the positive impact of this collaboration was incredibly moving. I feel deeply grateful to be part of such meaningful work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After some years, I have learned to balance my personal commitments with my social commitments<\/strong>. I always recall the last Charity Market<\/a> we organized, where we sold second-hand items and collaborated with the local communities. This was the first event hosted by 24Slides Indonesia for the general public in Malang and I was entirely in charge, which was quite challenging for me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t really remember how I managed to juggle work, social life, and organizing an out-of-town wedding\u2014all at the same time. But I did it! And that\u2019s what matters most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another activity I really enjoy is the <\/strong>Global Challenge<\/strong><\/a>, which always excites me because it gets us outside, exercising together as a group<\/strong>. I also like running and working out at the gym by myself. My personal motivation is that our participation multiplies into monetary donations for various social causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a designer, I have also contributed to the Global Challenge in a more artistic way<\/strong>. In the past two years, CSR has organized a global t-shirt design contest, where my work received the most votes two years in a row. For me, It’s incredibly rewarding to see my drawing skills appreciated by my friends. It\u2019s also a design that will remain durable for years to come!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of impactful activities could go on, but I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the unimaginable experiences I\u2019ve had with the CSR team so far. Working as a designer while also being active in social initiatives is extraordinary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
