Rethink, Reduce, Renew: Promoting Sustainability during our Green Awareness Month!

Green Month Awareness

As a socially responsible business, 24Slides believes that it is our duty to ask ourselves what we can do to create a better world, not just as individuals, but as an international organization. As a company that pledges to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we strive to make a difference in the communities that surround us—and that means the environment, too.

That’s why we set a goal to help us become more environmentally friendly: to reduce our carbon footprint. We are proud to be ambitious in our objectives, even when we know this is not an easy task and will not happen overnight. However, we also know that it’s easy to lose steam when talking about such long-term goals.

24Slides’ Green Awareness Month initiative is our way of reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and highlighting the importance of environmentally friendly, concrete actions that will take us further on our journey towards becoming a greener and more environment-friendly business

This past September, we dedicated the month to various initiatives aimed at strengthening our sustainability practices and awareness, highlighting the progress made, and encouraging continued involvement in our mission to reduce carbon emissions.

During our Green Awareness Month, we focused on 3 strategic initiatives that create actionable, concrete changes to support our sustainability goals:

1. Commuting Tracking

Throughout September, employees in all physical offices logged their daily commuting choices, to help us understand travel patterns and identify areas for improvement. This initiative allows us to strengthen our commitment to sustainability by involving all 24Sliders, making them active participants in our environmental goals.

It also provided us with valuable data to support future emission-reducing activities. By collecting commuting data annually, we can make more informed decisions on green initiatives and deepen our understanding of how everyday practices impact our environmental footprint.

From tracking commuting habits in the 24Slides team, we collected some very interesting findings:

  • In Indonesia, 75.3% of employees prefer motorcycles for longer commutes (5-20+ km), with some opting to share rides.
  • In our second Indonesian office, Kaliurang Office, 5.16% of commutes for shorter distances were on foot.
  • Public transportation and walking were the top choices for longer distances (10-20+ km) in Denmark and Peru.
  • Denmark employees favor bicycles for 15+ km, while driving is the second-most popular option for Peru employees, averaging 8+ km per commute.
  • Average commute distances vary, with Denmark and Peru ranging from 10-20 km; and Indonesia from 5-20 km.

2. Waste Management Policy Update

We launched our  Global Waste Management 3.0, which outlines best practices for reducing waste, recycling, sustainable procurement, and responsible management. It includes actionable items like reducing the use of plastic and turning off electrical equipment when not in use. It also highlights the importance of recycling and reusing practices when handling waste.

By implementing a waste management policy like this, we aim to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility among our colleagues. These guidelines were shared and hung in all offices to secure daily reminders of how to adopt good waste habits.

We’ve also taken concrete steps to promote a practical approach to these policies. In our Peru office, for example, this means setting up waste sorting stations. This not only allows us to bring our new waste management policies to life but also to promote an environmental-friendly mindset in our colleagues.

3. Green Awareness Courses

Online courses on sustainability were added to our 24Academy learning platform for employees. 24Sliders were encouraged to complete classes in topics such as recycling, innovation, B-Corp benefits, and achieving net zero emissions.

It was a great way to encourage employees to participate actively in our sustainability initiatives and mission and to encourage green habits in their daily lives.

As a business focused on doing better and investing in people, these courses allow us to cater to different interests. We believe in the power of education and the positive impact it can bring to the world. By giving 24Sliders the opportunity to learn new things, we aim to foster a culture of curiosity and a growing mindset, where people are excited to try new things and actively look for new ways to do better themselves.

September was also our Global Challenge month, a perfect fit to foster further interest in health and well-being. It was also a perfect opportunity to focus on working together as a team to achieve goals larger than ourselves.

Through the Green Awareness Month initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to reducing carbon emissions. By tracking commuting habits, waste management, and educational efforts on environmental sustainability, we aim to create a roadmap that will help us continue our journey as an environmentally friendly company even beyond September. Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing pledge to minimize our environmental impact and foster a culture of sustainability within our company.

We’re looking forward to continuing to push in our efforts and to create a better, greener world together.
