What if we could transform our mindset from buying sprees to giving to those who need it the most?
Over the years, Black Week has become synonymous with a discount frenzy, with all types of brands trying to drive higher sales during these days. While discounts are exciting, we had to ask ourselves, “What if we could redirect all this energy and excitement into something that creates good in the world?”
That’s why this year, we wanted to make something different. 24Slides is all about giving back to the communities that surround us, balancing purpose with profit. We believe that, as a business, we have the responsibility to try to make a positive impact in the world and to encourage others to do the same.
This past November, instead of offering flashy discounts, we decided to try to turn the Black Week narrative into something that fosters a sense of responsibility toward the community by offering 5% of the week’s revenue to two local charities in the countries of our design offices.
Real Impact for Real People
Our “Turning Black Week Upside Down” campaign was meant as a way to put the spotlight on the things that we value the most: supporting the communities that surround us. As a company aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, our goal was to take this flashy event, and instead, support organizations that can bring a long-lasting, real effect into the lives of those who need it the most.
As a company whose goal is to empower people in emerging countries, Black Week was the perfect opportunity to support organizations that align with our values, with strategic initiatives that give people the tools and the resources to, hopefully, one day, change the basis of inequality.
Harapan Ummat (HARUM) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to providing the best possible care for children and supporting vulnerable families in Malang, Indonesia, helping to create spaces for children to be cared for safely, properly, and lovingly. |
With donations like the one provided by 24Slides, HARUM earns the necessary resources to prevent the separation of children from their families and increase their capacity in a sustainable manner. Donations allow HARUM to continue implementing its initiatives, like life-skills training for 50 elementary school children in topics such as literacy, English, cooking, farming, sorting waste, and handicrafts.
HARUM also provides mentoring and guidance for 20 teenagers (junior high school age) called Ruang Cita-cita. This project helps teenagers from poor families and vulnerable environments recognize various professions and identify and develop their potential strengths to develop better plans for their future. This program also aims to prevent risky and harmful behaviors in teenagers, like bullying, drug abuse, free sex, early marriage, and others.
Finally, HARUM also supports 10 preschool children (3-6 years old), providing motoric stimulation support and adequate nutritional intake according to their growth and development needs.
Through the support of 24Slides, HARUM can ensure the sustainability of these programs. The donations collected throughout Black Week can support these initiatives for up to six months, creating a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable families.
SOS Children’s Villages is an international NGO focused on creating family programs for vulnerable children in 130+ countries, collaborating with local communities and authorities to implement long-term initiatives. |
24Slides donations will go towards the SOS Children’s Villages program in Lima, Peru. They work with local organizations and communities to promote a better quality of life for children, teenagers, and their families, especially those in vulnerable environments. SOS Children’s Villages Peru’s main focus is to enable families to stay together and create access to essential goods and services, such as health care and education. The project also provides training for parents to generate income so they can look after their children.
Like HARUM, SOS Children’s Villages also supports young people and teenagers by giving them access to further education and vocational training – for example, in the English language and computer skills – so they have the right skills to find a job or start their own business.
Finally, SOS Children’s Villages works closely with state departments, local communities, and organizations to improve the rights of children, particularly those who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care. 24Slides’ donation will guarantee the continuity and reach of these programs, helping to create a lasting impact in the lives of vulnerable children.
Empowering People to Do Good
This Black Week, 24Slides aimed to step away from the focus on individual gain and ask a new question: Is my personal savings more important than the well-being of others? Our goal was not only to gather donations for these NGOs but also to foster a culture of intentionality, inviting people to think about how their decisions can positively impact others.
We believe that given that chance, people will take the opportunity to do good, and we’re delighted to have been proven right. Each customer who participated in this Black Week has actively decided to buy, not because of a discount or a sale but because they thought it was worth it.
We’re proud to set an example for how businesses can not only balance purpose with profits but can also play a key role in encouraging people and giving them the opportunities to create something bigger and better, together.
