Back in 2018, 24Slides embarked on one of our most ambitious projects to date: to build from the ground up a brand new office space in Malang, Indonesia.
24Slides’ Malang team had been working on rented office spaces since its beginning, all the way back in 2012. However, as our team in Indonesia kept growing to reach 200+ employees, finding spaces that could meet 24Slides’ requirements became increasingly difficult over time.
Building a brand new office was not only a matter of practicality, but it was also part of how we envisioned 24Slides’ journey into the future. It was crucial to build a space that could not only support our growth and future initiatives but also reflect the heart and values of 24Slides.
This building project was not only a need business-wise; it was one more step to ensure all employees were able to work in the best possible environment. The building took into consideration factors such as indoor climate, as well as the habits and needs of 24Sliders, including how teams interact with each other and how to better support their activities as part of 24Slides’ mission to promote health and well-being—both mentally and physically.
It was also an outstanding opportunity to walk the talk. As a BCorp Certified business, 24Slides aims to maintain high standards of sustainability and social responsibility practices. The brand-new office building was to be a testament to the commitment to sustainability practices, as well as an inspiration for how businesses can integrate social responsibility into their everyday work.
Enter Dekoruma, Indonesia’s go-to home and living service, offering customers furniture and custom interior solutions for businesses and homes. Based in Indonesia, Dekoruma has a proven track record in crafting spaces that not only function beautifully but are also aligned with sustainable and social values, making it the perfect partner for 24Slides’ building project.
The partnership brought together 24Slides’ vision for a future-proof workspace with Dekoruma’s design expertise, combined with environmentally conscious practices. Together, they reimagine what a modern office can be—inspiring, functional, and sustainable.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability was a core pillar of the project from the start. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, 24Slides opted to retain much of the original structure, including the existing foundation and steel framework. This decision significantly minimized construction waste and the project’s carbon footprint.
The longevity of the materials was also a key aspect of the decision-making process, as duration and reliability were determining factors when thinking about the project.
Dekoruma was key in ensuring that the final product was everything 24Slides needed and more. Their design process adheres to B-Corporation standards, ensuring high levels of social and environmental responsibility. The selection of sustainable, non-toxic, and locally sourced materials played a central role in bringing to life 24Slides’ brand-new building.
Some of the strategic choices Dekoruma managed for the project included:
- Use of durable materials, such as incorporating waste-based materials for decorative furniture like wall panels and tabletop surfaces.
- Collaborations with local vendors to reduce transportation emissions and support the regional economy.
- Recommendations focused on long-lasting materials—avoiding quick fixes in favor of enduring quality.
These efforts create a space that is not only visually appealing but also environmentally respectful, while still focusing on employees’ comfort and well-being.
Designing for People
At the core of the new office building are all the people who make up the team of 24Slides Indonesia. The project was envisioned around how employees work, collaborate, and feel. Staff were surveyed and consulted to understand preferences and needs, from desk configurations to collaboration areas.
Just as with sustainability features, Dekoruma was the perfect partner to bring to life what it meant to have an office built around and for the people.
With the employees’ well-being in mind, these are some of the features that have been implemented into the new office building in Malang:
- A diverse set of workspaces: sit-stand desks, floor-level seating, and more.
- Relaxed “chill” areas for unwinding—including sleeping pods!
- Dedicated spaces for wellness, including a yoga room, gym, lactation room, mini library, and a garden.
- Design that maximizes natural light and airflow, contributing to comfort and concentration.
This human-centered approach reflects 24Slides’ values—Care, Growth, and Ambition—through every square meter.
Building a New Meaning for “Office”
This project is not a one-off effort, but part of a larger movement to promote responsible, people-first office environments. It’s a message to businesses everywhere: a workspace can be both inspiring and environmentally conscious.
