Timelines are one of the best ways of visually showcasing a business plan or project. By displaying milestones along a time axis, it can easily convey information about the plan such as an estimated length, the starting and completion date for each subtask, milestones, and more. Timelines can take many forms, the most common one being a chronological timeline where milestones have set dates and are placed at adequate intervals one from the other. This is suitable for project management and tracking the progress against deadlines. Timelines can also take the form of Gantt Chart which provides more information for each sub-task. Cyclical timelines can be used to describe repetitive processes such as action plans depending on financial year quarters. All options have specific benefits and it depends on the initial requirements when it comes to choosing one of those.
In order to outline a business strategy, cyclical timelines can provide considerable value. For example, a business plan where the revenue gained by a company is reinvested into providing better services or products can be fully expressed using this type of timeline.
Gantt Charts split the main task into its components and assign a start and end time for each subtask. It is a great tool for project management as it allows to analyze each component of the main task to ensure timely delivery.
