Tackling CO2, One Ride at a Time: The Carbon Hero Initiative

At 24Slides, our journey toward sustainability doesn’t end with awareness—it follows up with action.

As a company that pledges to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, one of 24Slides’ goals is to positively impact the environment by promoting sustainable practices to combat climate change and help care for the ecosystems surrounding our communities.

Last year, we celebrated Green Awareness Month, tracking commuting habits in our offices, updating our waste management policies, and implementing green awareness courses to reaffirm our commitment to sustainability.

However, we wanted to take a more hands-on approach to environmental practices. Green Awareness Month lends us some very interesting insights into what concrete actions we can take to make a positive impact in the world and help us take our next steps towards becoming a greener and more environmentally friendly business.

Taking what we learned from Green Awareness Month, we’re now proud to present the Carbon Heroes Initiative!

Why Carbon Hero?

The idea for Carbon Heroes began with a simple, powerful insight: Of our team of 200+ people in Malang, Indonesia, 75% of colleagues commute to work on motorcycles—alone. With such a high volume of solo trips, daily commutes emerged as a significant contributor to our local carbon emissions.

It was the perfect opportunity to make a positive change.

The Carbon Hero Initiative was meant to encourage co-riding—meaning sharing motorcycle trips to the office instead of solo rides, thus cutting down the CO₂ emissions and promoting environmentally friendly habits.
According to our research, a single tree absorbs an average of 10 to 40 kg of CO₂ per year. By encouraging just 20% of our colleagues to co-drive, we could cut down approximately 136.2 kg of CO2 emissions over three months. Through the Carbon Hero campaign, this co-riding initiative would reduce approximately 96.94 kg of carbon in just three months—the equivalent of planting up to 10 large Oak trees.

Co-Riding in Action

From February to April, employees from the Indonesian office of 24Slides were encouraged to share their rides in order to help reduce carbon emissions through concrete, simple actions.

The motto? “Drive Less and Be a Carbon Hero!”

Employees logged their trips using our team platform, registering their starting point and destination. Riding buddies would then coordinate pick-ups from common locations and share the trip to the office. To keep things fun and motivating, we also introduced Carbon Hero Awards: milestone rewards of free motorcycle wash vouchers and exclusive “24CarbonHero” stickers.

Through consistent communication, shared goals, and a fun outlook, employees joined the initiative and became part of the change towards more sustainable, environmentally friendly habits.

Small Trips, Big Wins

As always, 24Sliders proved that they embody the values that characterize our company.

After just three months, here’s what Carbon Hero has achieved:

  • 407.4 kilometers covered through co-riding
  • 24 co-riding trips logged
  • 78.22 kilograms of CO₂ emissions saved

The amount of carbon emissions saved equates to roughly the same amount of carbon generated by charging over 15,600 smartphones or burning 36.22 liters of gasoline!

Our Tenaga Baru office in Malang—one of two locations in Indonesia—was especially heroic throughout this initiative, leading the way with enthusiastic participation and a strong sense of purpose.

And the best part? The experience meant more than just environmental wins. By sharing rides, employees found a new space to connect while also saving money and reducing traffic.

By sharing a ride with colleagues, my commute became more fun. Aside from reducing carbon emissions, it made us know each other better than before. “It’s amazing how simple actions, like co-riding, can drive real change.”

Sharing the Road Ahead

Carbon Hero 2025 has shown us that small actions can have a big impact, especially when everyday actions align with shared values.

While we didn’t achieve our target, we’ve only just started, and the positive response has inspired us to plan future rounds of the initiative, especially as our new office prepares to open.

We’re excited to see how much more the Carbon Hero Initiative can grow. We’re looking forward to taking what we’ve learned and scaling it to more locations, offering sustainable commuting solutions across all 24Slides offices according to their own habits and possibilities.

We wholeheartedly believe that even the smallest effort can spark change. Let’s all keep moving together towards a cleaner, greener world!
